🎓Our Work

Creating Safe Learning Opportunities for Afghan Girls

Pohana Fund works to ensure that girls in Afghanistan can continue their education even in the most restricted and challenging environments. Through community partnerships, discreet home-based classrooms, and flexible learning models, we provide safe and reliable opportunities for girls to continue their studies from Grade 1 to Grade 12.

Our work focuses on regions where access to education has been severely limited. By collaborating with families, local teachers, and trusted community members, we create learning spaces that allow girls to study safely while protecting both students and educators.

Today, our programs operate across multiple provinces, supporting girls who would otherwise have no access to education.

🎓Community-Based Home Schools

One of the core parts of our work is the establishment of small home-based classrooms within trusted community spaces.

These classrooms operate quietly inside homes or safe community locations where students can gather in small groups to continue learning. Families often volunteer their homes to host these classes, while local female teachers provide instruction and guidance.

Home-based schools create an environment where girls can continue their education without drawing unnecessary attention while remaining supported by their community.

Key features of these schools include:

  • Small, community-based classrooms

  • Female teachers from the local community

  • Flexible schedules designed for safety

  • Strong community support networks

This model allows education to continue even in areas where traditional schools are not accessible.

Why Our Work Matters

Education is one of the most powerful tools for creating opportunity, stability, and long-term development. When girls have access to learning, they gain the knowledge and confidence needed to contribute positively to their communities and their future.

By sustaining community-supported classrooms and expanding educational opportunities, Pohana Fund helps ensure that girls across Afghanistan can continue building their skills and shaping their futures.

Even in the most challenging circumstances, education remains a powerful source of hope.

🎓Flexible Learning Through Digital Education

To reach more students and reduce risks associated with physical classrooms, Pohana Fund also supports distance learning initiatives.

These programs include a full educational curriculum covering Grades 1 through 12, with materials provided in both Dari and Pashto. Educational content includes recorded lessons, exercises, and learning materials designed to work even in areas with limited internet connectivity.

This flexible learning system ensures that girls can continue studying even when in-person classes become difficult to maintain.

Distance learning resources include:

  • Curriculum-based video lessons

  • Educational worksheets and exercises

  • Offline learning materials

  • Programs designed for low-connectivity environments

By combining home-based schools with digital learning, we create multiple pathways for girls to continue their education.

Strengthening Community Support Networks

Pohana Fund’s programs succeed because they are supported by local communities. Parents, teachers, and community leaders play an essential role in protecting and sustaining these learning initiatives.

Families help identify safe learning spaces, coordinate schedules, and ensure that girls can attend classes safely. Local women often step forward to serve as teachers, demonstrating remarkable courage and dedication to education.

These strong community networks allow educational activities to continue even in environments where formal schooling has been restricted.

Expanding Access to Education

The demand for girls’ education across Afghanistan remains extremely strong. Communities in several provinces have already approached Pohana Fund requesting support to establish additional home-based classrooms.

In many cases, families have already identified safe locations and local teachers willing to lead classes.

With additional resources and financial support, Pohana Fund aims to expand its programs to reach even more communities where girls are waiting for the opportunity to learn.

Our goal is to continue strengthening our network of schools and educational programs so that every girl, regardless of where she lives, has access to knowledge and learning.
