About Us
Reaching the Most Restricted Areas
Pohana Fund’s work extends to regions considered among the most restrictive environments for girls’ education.
In provinces like Zabul and Kandahar, some of our classrooms operate in locations that require careful coordination and discretion due to strict monitoring. Teachers, parents, and community members work together to ensure that students can continue learning safely.
Despite the challenges, these communities remain committed to education. Their courage and determination highlight the strong desire for learning that exists across Afghanistan.
A Growing Network of Support
Since its early initiatives, Pohana Fund has gradually built a network of teachers, volunteers, and community partners across multiple provinces.
Communities themselves often approach the organization requesting support to open additional home-based schools in their villages. In many cases, families have already identified safe locations and local women willing to teach.
This growing demand reflects the strong desire among Afghan families to ensure that girls continue their education despite the obstacles they face.
With greater financial support and international collaboration, Pohana Fund hopes to expand its programs and reach even more students who are waiting for the chance to learn.
🎓About Us
Who We Are
Pohana Fund is a community-driven initiative dedicated to protecting and continuing girls’ education in Afghanistan’s most restricted provinces. Our work focuses on creating safe and discreet learning opportunities for girls who have lost access to formal schooling due to ongoing restrictions.
Operating through trusted community networks, Pohana Fund supports home-based classrooms and educational programs that allow girls to continue their studies from Grade 1 to Grade 12. Our approach is built on collaboration with local families, female teachers, and community leaders who believe strongly in the importance of education for girls.
Across Afghanistan, communities continue to demonstrate remarkable resilience and determination to ensure their daughters can learn, grow, and build a better future.
🎓Supporting Education Beyond the Classroom
In addition to home-based schools, Pohana Fund also supports digital and distance learning initiatives that help girls continue their education even when physical classes become difficult.
These programs include access to educational materials, structured lessons, and resources designed to work with limited internet connectivity. In some cases, girls also receive basic digital literacy training, including computer skills and typing.
These additional learning opportunities help students stay connected to modern education and prepare for future opportunities.
🎓The Challenge Facing Girls’
Education
In many parts of Afghanistan, especially in provinces such as Helmand, Zabul, Uruzgan, Kandahar, Paktia, Paktika, Khost, Logar, and Nimroz, girls face severe limitations on their access to education.
These challenges are not caused by a lack of community support. In fact, families across these regions strongly value education for their daughters. The barriers are largely the result of strict ideological policies and heavy monitoring that prevent girls from attending formal schools.
As a result, thousands of girls have been left without safe or accessible learning opportunities.
Pohana Fund works to bridge this gap by creating discreet, community-supported alternatives that allow education to continue even in the most difficult environments.
🎓A Community-Led Approach
One of the defining strengths of Pohana Fund is its community-led model. Our programs are not imposed from outside; they are developed in collaboration with local communities who actively support girls’ education.
Families often provide safe spaces within their homes where small classrooms can operate quietly. Local women serve as teachers, and community members help protect these learning environments.
This collective effort ensures that education remains accessible while maintaining the safety of students and teachers.
The willingness of communities to support these schools clearly demonstrates that Afghan families deeply value education for their daughters.
🎓Looking Toward the Future
Pohana Fund believes that education is one of the most powerful tools for building stronger communities and creating long-term stability.
By protecting access to education today, we help ensure that Afghan girls can develop the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed to shape their future.
Our work is sustained by the courage of students, the dedication of teachers, and the unwavering support of families who refuse to allow education to disappear from their communities.
Together, we continue to create safe pathways for learning — even in the most challenging circumstances.
